Wednesday - April 25, 2012 From the School From the Director of College Counseling Class of 2013 – A reminder that the Washington Area Independent Schools College Fair will be held on Wednesday, April 25 in Bender Arena on the campus of American University. See the link on the College Counseling website for a listing of all participating schools as well as other details about the program. Class of 2014 – Parent Meeting with College Counseling will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, April 26 in Robert Smith Meeting Room. Please visit College Counseling website and read “The How and the Why – FAQ” prior to the meeting. Also, please feel free to forward any questions you would like the counselors to address during the meeting to Eric Monheim. 2012 Auction: Sparkle, Glitter & Glow Thank you to everyone who attended the 40th Annual Auction this past Saturday night. It was truly a memorable evening for both the SFS community and student financial aid, celebrated on campus in our stunning athletic center. The event was a smashing success, grossing over $587,000 to go towards student financial – a Sidwell record! The evening was topped off by a special performance by the wonderful Stone Soup Band. A big thank you goes out to our co-chairs Meg Hauge, Shallah Jewel, Stacey Lubar and Sarah Wright Meyers for all of their hard work and dedication to the event – from selecting the theme to securing incredible donations to choosing catering and decor. The event wouldn’t have been a success without you! Thank you as well to our Auction Committee, David Merlin-Jones and the Jazz Ensemble, Stone Soup Band and of course, all of our generous donors. Parents of Black Students Meeting 4 to 5:30 pm, Sunday, April 29 In years past, the Parents of Black Students (PBS) committee has been an excellent resource for parents of all stripes and colors, sponsoring meetings and discussions on a host of important topics. The PBS committee has been on hiatus for a few years, but we’d like to get it up and running again. Parents from all three divisions are invited to attend a PBS meeting next Sunday, April 29th from 4 to 5:30 pm. We will be gathering in the Robert L. Smith Meeting Room on the Upper School campus. If you have questions, please contact Nikki Bravo or Portia Robertson Migas. We hope to see you on Sunday. US Community Service Day (9th - 11th Grades) Friday May 18th, 8 am - 2:30 pm, Off-campus: Drivers Urgently Needed US students and faculty will be working on many community service projects in the metropolitan DC area on this day of service. Adult drivers are needed between 8 am and 1 pm to help with transporting our volunteers to and from the service sites. Drivers are not required to participate in the service projects, but would be welcome to do so. If you can provide only pick-up or drop-off, we could still use your help - many drivers are needed to make this day a success! If you would like to volunteer as a driver, please contact June Das Gupta with the number of passengers you can transport, and any timing and/or location restrictions you may have, and we will try to accommodate all requests as best as possible. Other News Fourth Grade Car Wash - May 5th The annual 4th grade car wash is almost here – don’t miss out! The 4th graders will be working hard to clean and shine your car at the Spring Festival on the Lower School campus. It will be held from 3 – 5 pm on Saturday, May 5th.
