Interesting. It's a big area that she describes. Begin forwarded message: > From: "WFS Alumni/Development Office" <pwinburn@wilmingtonfriends.org> > Date: April 19, 2012 11:35:13 AM PDT > To: "Valerie J. Owens" <missy.owens@gmail.com> > Subject: Update from WFS > Reply-To: pwinburn@wilmingtonfriends.org > > Dear Wilmington Friends Alumni, > > Everyone is totally safe and doing okay here, but as you may have heard, we did have a fire on Tuesday afternoon in the Middle/Upper School Auditorium and South Gym (the Boys' Gym for many of you). We wanted to touch base as soon as we had our power and email back up and running. The fire/water damage was mostly contained to that building, built in 1961. > > The good news—and there is much of it—is that all students and faculty/staff are safe and were accounted for in minutes. We held a field evacuation away from the building, and it couldn't have gone any smoother. All those fire drills paid off. > > Countless parents have said that they were so impressed with the evacuation and communication process. Without email and web access, we utilized our Emergency Phone system, Twitter, and Facebook to keep parents up to date. > > We were amazed at the firefighters' bravery and intense work to contain the fire. Two firefighters were injured, but both are fine now too. > > Our community, as you wouldn't be surprised to hear, has been incredible—from our neighbors bringing water to the students and faculty on Tuesday, to students bringing homemade cookies Tuesday night to the maintenance staff and fire fighters, to our maintenance staff's efficiency and concern, to the faculty and staff who handled the situation calmly and so professionally, to alumni, parents, and friends asking how they could help. The outpouring of support has been humbling, and we are all incredibly grateful. > > Again, we have so much to be thankful for and have a lot more to figure out, but we wanted to be in touch as soon as we could. We will be sure to update you with more information as it comes. Thank you for being a friend to Friends. > -Paige > > > > Paige Meginley Winburn > > Alumni Director, Wilmington Friends School > > #302-576-2981 > > > > > > > > > > > > > Wilmington Friends School > Privacy Policy > > Email Preferences Form > > > > > > >=2
