The Democratic Party ----------------------- Robert -- As Democrats, I like to think we take the long view of things. While the other side seems determined to enact shortsighted legislation that reinforces the status quo, we think about what our actions mean for the future -- will our children be better off than us? Are we creating an economy and a world built to last? That's a fundamental difference between Democrats and Republicans -- and it's nowhere more apparent than in our commitment to the environment. Forty-two years after the first Earth Day, it's important to recognize that difference, and commit to fighting for our vision, now and in November. This Earth Day, sign up to show your support for the party committed to the long view on the environment: http://my.democrats.org/Stand-for-the-environment-with-Dems3 Despite Republican obstruction in Congress, we've made major progress this year. Last July, President Obama announced an agreement with automakers to nearly double fuel efficiency for cars and light-trucks by 2025, saving consumers over $8,000 at the pump per vehicle and cutting 6 billion tons of greenhouse emissions. Brand-new mercury standards will keep our air and water cleaner, and protect our children from devastating developmental disorders. And, for the first time ever, the EPA has proposed rules that will limit the amount of carbon dioxide produced by future power plants -- a critical first step to tackling climate change, and one the GOP fought every step of the way. There is still much to do. We need a long-term plan to address climate change -- legislation that can only be passed by Congress. The Republican party is on the wrong side of this issue.
