_JEFFREY GOLDBERG: _Newt Gingrich is right about space. With the end of the
shuttle program, Americans are losing the romantic, creative and heroic
possibilities of space exploration. “Gingrich would make a lousy NASA chief,
and I wouldn't trust him with private money, either. But I would hire him as
the space program's resident philosopher, and noodge.” [Link]

_RAMESH PONNURU: _President Obama is a serial offender in the burgeoning
field of Reagan misappropriation. Politicians in both parties are ransacking
Reagan’s record in service of latter-day expediencies. “Compared to the
various mythical Reagans on offer, the real Reagan is less convenient for
today's Democrats -- and a more challenging example for Republicans.”

_EDWARD GLAESER: _Is Mitt Romney’s suggestion to eliminate the Department of
Housing and Urban Development -- which his father once led -- a good idea?
Only if we develop a serious shutdown plan that preserves programs that
genuinely help the poor. “Eliminating every HUD program would be unwise and
inhumane, but the best ones could be saved even if the department itself
were shuttered.” [Link]

_ENRIQUE KRAUZE: _“Something extraordinary is happening in Peru.” As the
economy improves, Peruvians are shedding old habits and altering their
perceptions of their place in the world. This means no more jokes that “the

_THE EDITORS: _Here’s a food fact that’s hard to swallow:The more we drug
cows, pigs and chickens, the less antibiotics work on us. “This isn't news
to the Food and Drug Administration, which has known since the early 1970s
about the misuse of these drugs in agriculture and done little about it.”
