unlikely the Supreme Court will strike it down. And if it does, well,
"The courts have struck down statutes before, including big and
important ones, and have often upset the working balance of government

JONATHAN ALTER: "Across the country, the Republicans' carefully
orchestrated plan to make voting harder -- let's call it the Voter
Suppression Project -- may keep just enough young people and minorities
from the polls that Republicans will soon be in charge of all three
branches of the federal government."

locales in emerging nations, "the price of renewables is most

CHRISTOPHER SWIFT: Will Yemen become the next Afghanistan? Not if the
U.S. undertakes a few modest initiatives. The U.S. should "finance
Yemeni efforts to mediate tribal disputes through local religious and
nongovernmental organizations," embrace "the tribal and community-based
militias that have recently gained strength in several southern
provinces" and " give local decision makers a stake in Yemen’s

JONATHAN WEIL: There's a problem with the accounting rules JPMorgan
used to book gains while reporting its recent trading losses. These
rules "create needless complexity for investors, along with ample
opportunities for companies to manipulate the timing and size of their

THE EDITORS: Rising subsidies for fossil fuels, which keep their prices
below market rates and discourage measures to improve energy
efficiency, could cost the world $660 billion by 2020. We need to:
"Phase out fossil-fuel subsidies and, in the process, replace them with
financial support for energy-efficiency efforts and renewable power."
[Link] And in Europe, THE EDITORS write, "It's time for shock and
awe." Expectations are running high in advance of meetings of European
Union leaders this weekend, "which is good, because Europe’s leaders
need pushing, and they know it would be risky to disappoint the markets
