Thanks [Description: Description: Print_Spot_Light_notag] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June XX, 2012 Media Contact: Sharee Posey Office (703) 740-4980 sposey@uso.org<mailto:sposey@uso.org> Dr. Jill Biden to Lead Storytime with Children of DC National Guard Members Dr. Biden Shares Granddaughter's Deployment Experience with Guardsmen and Military Families in DC WHAT: Members of the DC National Guard and their families are being invited to attend an invitation-only USO reading of Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden's new children's book "Don't Forget, God Bless Our Troops," this Saturday, June 9 at the DC Armory. When a parent is deployed it's hard on the entire family, and can be a time of confusion, worry and insecurity for the children of our men and women in uniform. Dr. Biden heard first-hand about those fears and concerns from her granddaughter, Natalie, during the year her father deployed to Iraq. Knowing that countless military children share her granddaughter's feelings Dr. Biden set out to tell her story. "Don't Forget, God Bless Our Troops," is a personal account of Natalie's experience with her dad's deployment and offers coping mechanisms, ideas on how to stay connected through lengthy deployments and lets military kids know they are not alone. The book also provides readers with ways they can support troops and military families. Dr. Biden accepted no advance for the book and will donate all net author proceeds to the USO in support of the future education of children of military families. Additionally, Simon & Schuster will make a contribution to the USO to support military children in honor of the book's publication. WHEN: Saturday, June 9, 2012 10:00 - 11:00 am WHERE: DC Armory 2001 East Capitol Street Southeast Washington, DC 2003 WHO: Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden USO President and CEO Sloan Gibson President of USO Metropolitan Washington Elaine Rogers SPECIAL NOTE: For media interested in covering the event please RSVP to sposey@uso.org<mailto:sposey@uso.org>. We provide a touch of home through centers at airports and military bases in the U.S. and abroad, top quality entertainment and innovative programs and services. We also provide critical support to those who need us most, including forward-deployed troops, military families, wounded warriors and their families and the families of the fallen. The USO is a private, nonprofit organization, not a government agency. We rely on the generosity of our volunteers and donors. In addition to individual donors and corporate sponsors, the USO is supported by President's Circle Partners: American Airlines, AT&T, Clear Channel, Kangaroo Express, Kroger, Lowe's, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Procter & Gamble, and TriWest Healthcare Alliance and Worldwide Strategic Partners: BAE Systems, The Boeing Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Lockheed Martin, and Microsoft Corporation. We are also supported through the United Way and Combined Federal Campaign (CFC-11381).
