Rep. Clyburn calls Biden ‘most important’ veep

Needless to say Dick Cheney wasn’t in the room Friday when Rep. James Clyburn, South Carolina Democrat, said Vice President Joseph R. Biden “might be the most important vice president in history.”

Mr. Clyburn, South Carolina Democrat, was giving an over-the-top introduction of Mr. Biden at the House Democrats’ annual retreat in Cambridge, Md.

The assistant House Democratic leader also fanned the flames of speculation about Mr. Biden’s possible run for the presidency in 2016, noting that the vice president has often visited South Carolina, an early primary state.

“For some strange reason, Joe Biden has developed an affinity for South Carolina,” Mr. Clyburn said.”Joe Biden has visited South Carolina so often, it is rumored that he is vying for favored son status.”

Then Mr. Clyburn said he was “ready to announce an endorsement — maybe not the kind you have in mind.” The lawmaker said his memoirs are coming out soon, and Mr. Biden has “endorsed” the book on its jacket.
