"McConnell reiterates opposition to minimum wage increase, despite poll" - WHAS, 2/14/14

Dear Hunter,

There are 28 million people in this country making the federal minimum wage -- just $14,500 a year. In today's economy, that doesn't even keep a family of two above the poverty line.

And more than 7.4 million of those earning the federal minimum wage have children.

I know the obstructionists in the Senate don't like to see Congress take much action at all. But certainly lifting millions of Americans out of poverty is worth getting done. And we can do it right now.

I am committed to focusing on this issue in the next month or two. And before that happens, I want to put pressure on extreme members of Congress obstructing our progress with an outpouring of grassroots support.

Let the obstructionists in Congress know you support an increase in the federal minimum wage. Sign the petition right now.

Raising the minimum wage is good for American families. It helps them put food on the table, pay their bills, and maybe have some extra to save.

It's good for American businesses, too. Families with more money in their pockets have more money to spend, boosting local economies.

Who is it not good for? Tea Partiers in Washington. They'd rather blindly block any initiative President Obama supports than consider whether it is actually worth pursuing.

Lifting millions of Americans above the poverty line is more important than politics. And if you agree, let it be known: Sign the petition to support a minimum wage increase today.

President Obama has already taken action -- he raised the minimum wage for workers on government contracts just last week.
