Earlier this week Arkansas Attorney General, and former DAGA co-chair, Dustin McDaniel announced his bid for governor in 2014. General McDaniel was elected in 2006 to succeed Governor Mike Beebe. After his first term in office General McDaniel was extremely popular across the state and he faced no major party challenges in his bid for reelection. Since entering office his Consumer Protection Division has recovered more than $8.5 million for consumers and also secured the state’s largest ever settlement with a pharmaceutical company, winning $18.5 million from Eli Lilly. In February of this year he joined in the landmark $26 billion settlement from five of the largest banks in America for mortgage fraud and abuse. General McDaniel is the first to announce his candidacy for the 2014 gubernatorial election, but the race could be a crowded and expensive affair. Speculation has already centered on Democrats John Burkhalter, state highway Commissioner, and Bill Halter, the 2010 US Senate Candidate. Both potential candidates have made public statements that they are interested in seeking the seat in 2014. There haven’t been any official announcements on the Republican side, but current Lieutenant Governor Mark Darr and Arkansas Secretary of State Mark Martin are two potential candidates. Rick Hill, in their race for governor. Reports show Bullock’s campaign with $776,973 in cash left in the bank as of June 20, while Hill had $118,142, according to reports filed with the state political practices commissioner’s office. For the entire campaign, Bullock has raised more than $1.1 million, to Hill’s $794,629.
