> Morning Joe crew challenges Brock over Clinton emails
>
> The co-hosts of MSNBC's Morning Joe hammered Hillary Clinton defender David Brock on Wednesday for his assertion that the New York Times should correct its story on Clinton’s use of a private email <http://www.politico.com/story/2015/03/hillary-clinton-email-legal-115737.html?hp=r1_4> address while she was secretary of state.
>
> Brock, founder of American Bridge 21st Century, said the Times should correct its piece because Clinton broke no laws since the relevant portions of the Federal Records Act pertaining to such requirement didn't go into effect until November 2014. This was after Clinton's tenure at the state department.
>
> “The reporter seems to be digging his heels in and is now giving his opinion that Hillary Clinton broke the law. But they don’t have any independent legal authority that we can see to make that case, so I think the article was really sloppily done," said Brock. "It had innuendo in it that was false, so we’re saying New York Times you should take a look at your journalism and if you find problems let readers know and correct this as prominently as it was slapped on the paper yesterday."
>
> Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough then read regulations issued in 2009 under the Federal Records Act, which call for federal records to be preserved within agency systems.
>
> Brock challenged Scarborough’s assertion that this meant Clinton’s emails were not preserved on the State Department’s systems and therefore broke any law.
>
> “The 2009 law you’re referring to isn’t even cited in the New York Times. It’s such sloppy journalism you don’t know what regulations the reporter’s talking about,” Brock said. “There was no violation of law here Joe, whatsoever, and nobody that I can see is saying that except the New York Times.”
>
> At one point in the back and forth, co-host Mika Brzezinski exasperatedly asked Brock, “I’m not sure what planet I’m on right now. Are you reading the same thing we are?”
>
> “All I’m saying is let’s not have a situation where the normal journalistic rules apply to everybody but Hillary Clinton,” Brock said. “And let’s not forget that the real story here is that you’ve got a dying Benghazi investigation on Capitol Hill, there are people trying to breathe new life into it … They want a fishing expedition into these emails, they’ve found nothing after 10 investigations.”
>
> “The New York Times got snookered by the Benghazi folks,” Brock said.
