Yesterday, John Boehner and the GOP played politics with our national security by threatening to defund the Department of Homeland Security and cause another government shutdown.

They have proven once again that old habits die hard.

Although we narrowly avoided another government shutdown, we shouldn’t be satisfied with funding our nation’s homeland security one week at a time. We can do better than this.

The bottom line is: if we want to change the shutdown style of governing, we can’t let the 2014 elections happen again.

With our first budget deadline at midnight, Democrats must show that we have the grassroots support behind us. Will you stand with us right now?
