Dear Colleagues, I am writing to invite you to attend an upcoming off-the-record dinner to be held on Monday, March 2 from 5:30PM to 7:15PM. The dinner is entitled Creating Shared Value: The Role of the Private Sector in Agricultural Development and will focus on how companies, governments, and civil society can work together to meet the economic challenges facing the world's poorest countries. Nespresso USA CEO Guillame Le Cunff will be opening remarks on how Nestle has approached these challenges and an informal discussion will follow. We are also convening a public conference the day following the dinner, and we would be delighted if you could attend this as well. The agenda for the conference is attached below. The United States government has historically supported a number of global agricultural development initiatives by providing in-country capacity building, applied research, and support for improved market information and analysis. However, meeting tomorrow's challenges requires effective partnerships between governments and the private sector. We would greatly appreciate your insights as to how the U.S. government can more effectively work with the private sector to drive this agenda forward. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any further questions and direct your RSVP to Simone Schenkel at sschenkel@csis.org<mailto:sschenkel@csis.org> by Friday, February 27th. We look forward to hearing from you. Best, Dan Daniel F. Runde William A. The Project on Prosperity and Development will host the Creating Shared Value Conference as part of its ongoing work on the role of the private sector in addressing enduring socioeconomic challenges in the world's poorest countries. Join us for a discussion on ways to maximize shared value between businesses and the often rural communities in which they operate. The conference will build on the energy generated by Nestlé's Creating Shared Value Annual 2014 report to discuss innovative ways government and civil society can work with business to achieve rural development goals. Panelists will include representatives from the U.S. government, private sector, and non-governmental organizations. This event is made possible with support from the Nestlé Corporation.
