Biographical Information

Gordon Gray was confirmed as Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Tunisia in July 2009. He previously served as Senior Advisor to the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq from 2008 to 2009.

Ambassador Gray was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs from 2005 to 2008. He served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt from 2002 to 2005. Previous posts include Pakistan, Jordan, and Canada. He also served in Washington in the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs, the Office of Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Operations, and the Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Ambassador Gray was a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco.

Ambassador Gray received his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University and his Master of Arts from Columbia University. He is a recipient of the Presidential Meritorious Service Award and other awards for exceptional service. Ambassador Gray speaks French and some Arabic.
