Jones will begin his new position as Ambassador of the United States to Jordan in August 2011. A career member of the Foreign Service, he most recently served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, with responsibility for the Balkan region. Ambassador Jones previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt. His overseas posts include Governorate Coordinator for Al Anbar Province in Iraq; Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, Turkey; Political Counselor at the U.S. Consulate General in Adana, Turkey; and Principal Officer at the U.S. Embassies in El Salvador and Colombia. Domestic tours include Director for Iraq at the National Security Council; Deputy Director for European regional political military affairs; Desk Officer for Serbia; and Special Assistant to the Permanent Representative at the US Mission to the United Nations. Ambassador Jones received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
