We should all be concerned about what it means for our
country if Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed to the Supreme Court.

So far, public records and limited documents cherry picked in
a partisan process by the White House from Kavanaugh's long
career have shed light on Kavanaugh's troubling record ahead of a
Senate confirmation vote -- but disturbingly, more than 90% of the
documents from his judicial career and his work at the White
House have still not been released.

Senate Democrats have been demanding access to Kavanaugh's
full record for weeks in order to fulfill their constitutional
duty to advise and consent on this nominee -- but Senate
Republicans have repeatedly ignored these calls and our requests
to delay the hearing until these crucial documents are released
and reviewed. This obstruction is unprecedented in the history of
Supreme Court nominations. And it's unacceptable.

We should not be rushing to confirm a lifetime appointment to

While the vast majority of Kavanaugh's record is being kept
in the dark, what we already know about Kavanaugh shows that he
is far from mainstream on many key issues, and has a long record
of tearing down the progress we've made -- from demonstrating
hostility toward Roe v. Wade and the Affordable Care Act to his
decisions showing a clear favoritism toward corporations over
workers trying to organize for better wages and working
conditions.

On top of that, Judge Kavanaugh has a long-established view
that a U.S. President should not be subject to a criminal
investigation while in office. I have deep concerns that
President Trump, who is currently a subject of Special Counsel
Robert Mueller's criminal investigation and an alleged unindicted
co-conspirator in federal crimes, chose Judge Kavanaugh as his
nominee in order to serve as his "get-out-of-jail-free" card.

Senate Republicans are trying to get this nominee through the
confirmation process as quickly as possible and at all costs. My
questions are: what's the rush? And what are they hiding?

My Democratic colleagues and I clearly expressed our
frustration over the rushed confirmation process and
unprecedented obstruction to deliberately withhold thousands of
documents related to Kavanaugh's record. How can we expect
senators to fulfill their constitutional duty to advise and
consent on a nominee when we've only been given access to less
than 10% of Judge Kavanaugh's record?

Why is it that my colleagues and I are getting document dumps
-- over 42,000 new documents -- the night before the hearings on
Kavanaugh's nomination began?

This whole process is disgraceful, and makes it impossible
for senators to do their jobs to thoroughly vet this nominee.
