Dear Friends,

As some of you know, we are chairing the 2014 Children’s National Medical Center Ball on Friday, April 11th in Washington, DC. Our involvement with Children’s is very personal. The hospital provided critical care to our daughter Samia when she needed surgery at four months old.

But our connection goes deeper. Children’s has also been the hospital of choice for specialized treatment of Emirati kids with serious conditions. Over the last 20 years, hundreds of UAE families have been welcomed for critical care, and just last year Children’s received patients from all 50 states and 21 countries. And of course living here in Washington, we have seen close at hand the importance of Children’s in the local community.

Children’s reach and impact now extends even further. In 2009 the Government of Abu Dhabi provided the hospital a transformational gift to establish the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation. The Institute is doing ground breaking research that is making surgery less painful and invasive for kids all over the world.

The Ball is a great and fun opportunity to celebrate the hospital and its work. And we’ve wanted to include our friends in the celebration. For the first time, the hospital is holding an online auction that includes truly one-of-a- kind items and experiences such as:


* Experience the New York Tribeca Film Festival like a star! Attend red carpet premieres, screenings and wrap parties at one of the most celebrated and well-respected film festivals.
* Score a winning goal in the English Premier League. Watch a Manchester City Football Club match in the Director’s Box along with a personal meet and greet with the players, behind the scenes stadium tour, and a signed jersey.
* Enjoy a unique conversation over lunch with our good friend Walter Isaacson. The President and CEO of the Aspen Institute, Walter is a Pulitzer Prize winner and the acclaimed author of Steve Jobs and Benjamin Franklin: An American Life.
