Wednesday - March 19, 2014 From the School Message from Lee Many thanks to all who helped make “Urinetown” such a spectacular success. The talent, dedication, and expertise on display was remarkable as was the community support in the audience. Congratulations to the cast, crew, faculty and staff for extraordinary performances. I must admit that I had initial reservations based on the title, but after seeing the musical, I was completely won over by its relevance, wit, musicality and the brilliance of our SFS production! Congratulations to the 26 Upper School students who competed in the Washington-Arlington Catholic Forensics League Debate Metrofinals on March 7 and 8. The Congress team earned second place honors for the season; eight students qualified for the National Tournament to be held in May; and two of our junior varsity Public Forum teams finished 1st and 2nd at the two-day tournament. 197 students from 29 public and private schools in DC, Maryland and Virginia vied for 30 available slots at Nationals. The Washington Diocese (comprised of the schools in DC and Maryland) is allotted four Congress entries and four Public Forum team entries. Our students earned all four Nationals slots in Congress and two of our varsity Public Forum teams also qualified for Nationals by finishing in 2nd and 4th places at the competition. Quaker Quotes "If fighting is inconsistent with an ideal society, then fighting will not bring the ideal society. A spiritual result is produced by spiritual means and a material result by material means. If war is evil, as almost everyone admits, then it can not be the right way to produce a good result."
