Jamie Biden: A D.J. Related to a V.P.

AGE 32

HOMETOWN Washington, D.C.

NOW LIVES In an artsy loft near the South Street Seaport that he shares with his fiancée, the model Amy Bracco.

CLAIM TO FAME He is the nephew of Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. (his father, James Biden Sr., is the vice president’s brother) and is a rising D.J. on the New York-Hamptons party circuit. He spins regularly at the Surf Lodge in Montauk, N.Y., and at parties hosted by Ronnie Flynn, one of the promoters behind the downtown club Up & Down. When he is not playing records, Mr. Biden is a lead guitarist for Bloody Social, the rock band headed by Jamie Burke.

BIG BREAK His famous last name notwithstanding, Mr. Biden credits his success to being in the right place. In 2006, he met Mr. Burke outside the club Bungalow 8 when Mr. Burke was throwing up; the two decided to start a band. One night in 2009, he was spinning at the former nightclub Don Hill’s when Rachid Kallamni, a D.J. manager, recruited him to play at Juliet Supper Club and 1 OAK.

LATEST PROJECT He is completing an album (“It’s like rock with a little bit of country, a little bit of folk,” he said) with his friend Petter Stakee, lead singer of the English rock band Alberta Cross. It is scheduled to be released this summer with New Community Management.

NEXT THING Mr. Biden is building a recording studio in an old barn near his country home in Mount Tremper, N.Y. Perched atop a hill, it will be a place where “friends and friends of friends can come and have the space to create any kind of art,” Mr. Biden said.

FAMILY CONNECTIONS Despite studying international relations at Georgetown and a brief stint at Fordham Law School, Mr. Biden insists he has no interest in politics. And while he has gone to official vice-presidential functions, including the first Obama inauguration, his uncle has yet to return the honor. “He has more important things to do at the moment than coming to see me play for now,” Mr. Biden said.
