Dear Hunter,

Forty-nine years after Medicare was signed into law, the guaranteed medical benefits our seniors paid for all their lives are at risk.

Four years straight now, Paul Ryan and the Tea Party in the House have tried to end Medicare as we know it -- as it's worked for years -- and turn it into a voucher system.

That would mean that our seniors would essentially be given coupons for care to spend in the private insurance market. Would those vouchers cover all their medical costs? There's no way to tell.

We cannot allow Medicare to be dismantled this way. Today I'm joining with a few of my colleagues to gather 150,000 signatures in support of Medicare.

We in the Senate have successfully stopped the Ryan Plan to turn Medicare into a voucher system. But that doesn't mean the Tea Party isn't going to try again -- and again, and again, and again...

Seniors -- today and in the future -- cannot afford this disastrous plan. And as long as I am in the Senate, I will do everything in my power to protect Medicare.
