Today's gospel sets before us a technique which Mark utilizes to highlight the reality of belief. The technique is simple. As we read the gospel there are several occasions such as today's episode in which a house is brought into play. Those inside the house with Jesus have a deep insight into who Jesus is and what he can do. They see and they believe. Those outsides are less fortunate. They don't understand or see or believe. Simply put, if you inside you're 'in'; if you're outside you're 'out'. "They came to Capernaum and, once, inside the house, he [Jesus] began to ask them, 'What were you arguing about on the way?' But they remained silent." (Mark 9:30-37). 924 G St., NW, Washington, DC 20001 | Tel: (202) 772-4300 tel:2027724300 Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington © 2019 All rights reserved.
