In Mark's gospel, we witness the arguments that take place among those special people whom Jesus has called to follow him. Who is the greatest among us, they would ask? They bickered; the postured themselves; they fought among themselves. They acted like children seeking to claim a prize. Jesus cleverly brought a child into their company. Here is the model of discipleship: childlikeness and not childishness. And where are we as we listen to the gospel and reflect on the quality and character of our own lives. "Foe whoever is not against us is for us." (Mark 9:3-40)
