Hello, We all remember the names of the teachers who made an impact, and I was lucky to grow up with two of them, my parents. When my dad passed away, students he had 50 years earlier attended his funeral. My mom always had small treats on her desk to reinforce good behavior and she quietly bought and supplied necessities for kids who didn't have them, from pencils and paper to shoes and winter coats. I watched them pour their hearts and souls into the job, and remember them discussing the value society places on teachers, as they compared the salaries of public educators to those of professional ballplayers. I wish I could say our view of public educators has changed since then, but I can’t. If anything, it’s gotten worse. It was saddening and disheartening this past year to see our Iowa public school teachers come under direct attack and be stripped of their bargaining rights by the Republican legislature and governor -- because they didn't provide an “essential service.” This is unacceptable. Which is why, this American Education Week, I’m asking you to stand up and demand better for our educators and students -- add your name now. https://act.myngp.com/Forms/1089950340735699712 My parents dedicated their lives to ensuring that every child had access to the tools they needed to build their future and follow their dreams, and they instilled in me a similar passion for protecting public education. Public education is the cornerstone of our future as a state and a nation. It plays a critical role for children and families in breaking harmful cycles and empowering dreams. In our world, and in our communities, we need all of our children to be able to play vital roles in tomorrow's workforce. Every child deserves a good education in order to make the most of their lives and become contributing members of society. Period. So add your name now and demand Iowa puts students and educators first. https://act.myngp.com/Forms/1089950340735699712 Thank you, Leann ------------------------------------ | Paid for by Leann for Iowa | ------------------------------------ Leann for Congress P.O.
