two more things to review before this evening: one, the budget I’ll present. It’s basically what you’ve approved already, except the comms retainer is a bit more, the rent is adjusted for the new space and my salary is higher, since I’ve been unable to shift a portion to a political committee (as was my plan in early 2016). Second is a piece of collateral for D2L’s event in DC next week (May 5). I see no problem with it - they’re a great partner for us. Let me know if you have any suggested edits to either of these documents. /ja Joshua Alcorn 302/295.8340 (office) 302/598.1885 (cell) josh@beaubidenfoundation.org > On Apr 25, 2016, at 2:46 PM, Ashley Biden <abiden@dcjustice.org> wrote: > > Great! The meeting starts at 6:00, so I hope we can get this call wrapped up in 30 minutes. > > Tonight's agenda is below: > 1. the budget we will present to the board. > 2. how we talk about board responsibilities (fundraising, friend raising, event attendance). > 3. how we address what we’ll be after the VP and Dr. B are out of office. > 4. legislative discussion. > > Please note, I’ve added a fourth topic here. Some friends in the DE General Assembly have come to us asking for our support of a few different bills. To borrow a phrase from Senator Kaufman, we need a policy, so when people come to us, we can look at the policy and decide how to act. > > I had a long talk with Chris Putala on Friday, and he suggested one of these four options. There are ways to co-mingle some of these, but I hope we can have a brief discussion about this tonite. It’s up to you guys whether or not you want the larger board to weigh in on which strategy we pursue. > > Legislative Options: > > 1. Very Broad: We support every good kids bill that comes across our desk > > 2. Broad: We endorse selectively. We define the criteria or areas in which we want to support legislation. And let people come to us with their bills. > > 3. Narrow: we focus only on the bills that Beau worked on. If they’re law, we work to tweak and strengthen them. If they didn’t pass, we work to pass them. These are the basis for our national engagement. (I am working on finding the accomplishment document that lists the bills he had introduced and passed). > > 4. Hybrid: We identify a handful of legislative priorities and work to pass them. For DE, we would look at a few things that are law, which we want to strengthen, or things Beau started but ran in to roadblocks. For national engagement, we would hew to Beau’s legislative accomplishments or close examples to what he pushed. > > Talk at 5 pm! > /ja > > Joshua Alcorn > 302/295.8340 (office) > 302/598.1885 (cell) > josh@beaubidenfoundation.org <mailto:josh@beaubidenfoundation.org> >> On Apr 25, 2016, at 9:56 AM, Joshua Alcorn <josh@beaubidenfoundation.org <mailto:josh@beaubidenfoundation.org>> wrote: >> >> Good morning: looking forward to speaking with everyone tonite at 5pm.
