** DSCC WEEKLY ** December 9, 2011 Women candidates are leading the way in Democrats keeping the Senate. A record-breaking 11 women are expected to be the Democratic nominees in their respective states. And we believe all 11 can win. In Massachusetts, Elizabeth Warren is leading Sen. Scott Brown by 7 points. In North Dakota, Heidi Heitkamp is leading Rep. Rick Berg by 5 points. And in Wisconsin, Tammy Baldwin is in a statistical tie with multiple potential GOP opponents. http://hotlineoncall.nationaljournal.com/archives/2011/12/warren-edges-br.php http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/222848/ http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2011/10/thompson-leads-baldwin-by-only-two-in-wi-sen.html#more Race of the Week: North Dakota One of the nation's top political handicappers moved this race from "likely Republican" to "Toss Up." The reason? A recent poll shows former state Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp leading Rep. Rick Berg 47-42. Heitkamp is well known statewide for her principled leadership as attorney general. Meanwhile, Berg's job approval is upside down, with 56 percent giving him negative ratings. It probably doesn't help that one of Berg's first actions was his vote to turn Medicare into a voucher program. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/222848/ Top Actions Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Republican lawmakers repealed the rights of teachers and public safety workers to bargain for fair pay and benefits. Sign our petition, and send this message: Radical Republicans like Scott Walker who take away the rights of workers will be held accountable at the ballot box. https://dscc.org/act4?action_KEY=304 Quick Hits Debate: Democrat Tim Kaine was declared the winner of a Virginia Senate debate after keeping Republican George Allen on his heels about the failures of the Bush administration. http://www.politico.com/blogs/davidcatanese/1211/Why_Kain_won_the_debate_.html?showall Ridiculous: In Massachusetts, Karl Rove's Crossroads GPS is running an attack ad that tries to tie Elizabeth Warren to Wall Street. The ad is ridiculous because Warren has been such a staunch advocate for consumers and the middle class. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/12/ad-twists-elizabeth-warrens-role-as-tarp-watchdog/ Paid for by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, dscc.org, and not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee.
