Dear Faculty,

This message has news about the Blackboard course management system for
the Spring 2012 term. If you plan on using Blackboard this Spring,
please review the information below.

*1. Spring** course sites*

All Main Campus Spring 2012 courses, including non-credit courses, have
a site in Blackboard (http://campus.georgetown.edu
<http://campus.georgetown.edu/>). If you log in to Blackboard and do not
see your Fall courses listed, please verify that you are the course
instructor in MyAccess (http://myaccess.georgetown.edu/) or contact the
University Registrar at univregistrar@georgetown.edu
<mailto:univregistrar@georgetown.edu>.

*Please remember to make your course sites /available to students/! *

In order to allow faculty to develop course content without having this
content visible to students, Blackboard course sites are /unavailable to
students/ by default. (The word "Unavailable" is displayed next to the
course name in the Blackboard course list.) If you would like your
students to have access to a Blackboard course, you must make the course
available to them. Because the content is fully visible to you, this
step is easily overlooked. However, students do not see the course until
it is made available.

*2. Combining course sections*

Blackboard allows faculty who teach multiple sections of the same course
to combine those sections into a single, separate Blackboard course
site. For all Spring 2012 course combinations--including combinations of
select sections and of cross-listed courses--please submit a Blackboard
Faculty Help Request Form
<https://www8.georgetown.edu/centers/cndls/helprequests/blackboard_help.cfm>,
indicating the course sections for which you wish to have enrollments
combined. For more information, please see:

*3. Prior course sites become unavailable

Fall 2011 and older course sites become unavailable to students on
*Friday, January 13*. If you need an older course site to remain
available to students, you may change the course availability after
January 13.

*4. Copying course content*

Instructors can copy course content from any course they have taught
previously to a course they teach currently. Please see

information and instructions on copying course content.

*5. Emailing students*

Instructors can easily email students from Blackboard even if they do
not otherwise use Blackboard. For more information, see

*6. Blackboard workshops*

The Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship and University
Information Services are offering a series of workshops and webinars on
Blackboard for faculty. Topics include getting started with Blackboard,
building a course, collaborative tools, grades, and new features. For

*7. Blackboard support
