Let you know how things go. But given that this is being shown one-on-one, without copies made, and with the understanding that it is in draft, this is not a major concern. Bob Bauer who has just become our lawyer and is the number one expert in the country on this stuff (he advises the President also) has some real problems with the website and talking points. For a while it did not look like we could use it on our Tuesday appointments. He has sent a summary of his concerns and Robert Hoopes has agreed to work on including his requests on the website for Tuesday. Also, we made some changes in the Talking Points. (See below). I will be back in the states tomorrow. Give me a call with any questions. As my Mom said to me many years ago - "nothing in life that is worthwhile comes easy". This is very worthwhile and is turning out to be very difficult. Have a happy weekend. Ted 50616A Bauer Approved talking points I am very excited about the Vice President’s plans after he leaves office. He plans to be very active. The center piece of the Vice President’s work after he leaves office will be The Joseph Biden Foundation and Library. The Foundation will provide the office place and staff to continue his leadership on issues that are critical to him and I know critical to you. He has a number of opportunities to continue his life’s work in foreign policy, cancer research, equal treatment before the law, preventing violence against women and children, support of community colleges, and American veterans. In addition, he will establish the first Vice President Library and Center. The VP plans to dedicate the rest of his life to this new stage of his public service. I hope you will consider supporting the Foundation at this exciting time. I think you care about VP and want to see him be able to do that from the first day. . We are not raising money for specific programmatic efforts at this moment. We are raising money to get the Foundation up and running.. Over the next nine months the VP can make decisions on how he is going to organize his life after VP, but he is limited ethically in how much he can be involved, and he is still very busy being VP. He has been approached by a number of major academic institutions about joining them after 1/20/17. We have been told that he will have a number of financial opportunities. The Biden Foundation is not about money. It is totally about giving the VP a platform for the issues he cares about. We want you involved in helping with that process. The Foundation’s number one objective for this year is to raise the money to assure that the VP has the funding to hit the ground running on 1/20/17 when he leaves office. We are far along in developing a Biden Foundation website which we plan to go public with in July. Show them the web site. You can see from our proposed website that the VP is planning for a very energetic post VP life. When it becomes public we would like to be able to show on the website that the foundation has already received significant contributions from good people for him to hit the ground running. The preferred way to do this is to have leaders among his good friends and supporters give or raise $500,000 contributions As you can also see, like the Barack Obama website, there will be full transparency with all contributors placed on the website. Do you have any questions? Optional – These early contributors will be an interesting group. We plan to keep them informed on developments in the Foundation. There's no need to introduce that into the discussion at this point. It should be sufficient to say that he will be busy and will not be able to turn his attention to this project fully until he leaves office. On the website, it may be easiest for me to identify the parts that should be put "under construction", subject to revision later, and so here goes 1. I would delete the reference the paragraph entitled A Family Affair. 2. I would delete: any references to current Vice Presidential activities: -- the report on the Vice Presidents trip to Iraq -- the link to the New Yorker and Foreign Policy articles --the link to the article on the Cyprus visit I am less concerned about the links to his views on LGBT rights and the Moon Shot. 3. I'm confused by the references to the Dr. Jill Biden Foundation and the Beau Biden Foundation. . This seems to suggest separate organizations bearing their names? I wouldn't have any concerns about references to Dr. Joe Biden's "leadership in" the Foundation, or critical work "with" or" for" the Foundation. 4. Finally, I'm fine with the video, so long as there is no identified location on the site soliciting contributions. And I did not see one. This relates to the Vice President's closing comment about being able to do this with the viewers "help." So long as this reference is unconnected to any suggestion of fundraising, I'm not troubled by it at this stage and given the uses we have in mind for the video right now. Please let me know if you have any questions.
