The Ritz Carlton requires a deposit for your first night’s stay and a credit
card number when you reserve your room; as always, you are responsible

The conference begins with a lunch on Friday, January 27th and concludes
with a dinner on Saturday, Januaray 28th. We will send you periodic updates
as we get closer to the event and a full briefing the week before the
conference, which will include a list of Attorneys General attending and
final agenda for the conference.

Dress for the conference is business casual to resort casual. South Florida
enjoys warm weather even in late January with highs in the mid-70s and lows
in the upper 50s.

We look forward to launching our 2012 events with you in South Florida!

Neither rain nor _awful_ DC traffic could keep over 300 DAGA supporters and
friends from joining us to commemorate 10 years of DAGA success at last
week's Holiday Party at Rosa Mexicano. With margaritas and chips & guacamole
in hand, we toasted to DAGA's most successful year in our history. In 2011
our fundraising, new membership and event attendance grew at an
unprecedented level, thanks in large part to the hard work of our AGs and
the participation of our current membership.

During the festivities, it was announced that Arkansas Attorney General
Dustin McDaniel will be stepping down from his position as Co-Chair at the
end of this year. He will be succeeded by California Attorney General Kamala
Harris.

DAGA would like to thank Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel for his
exemplary three-year tenure as DAGA Co-Chair. Under his direction, the
organization has nearly doubled in size while improving our event
experience, member relations and electoral success.

We are excited to build upon a very successful 2011 with Co-Chairs Beau
Biden, Chris Koster, and Kamala Harris and look forward to General
McDaniel’s continued participation in the organization.

N.J. Attorney General Dow Will Leave Post for Port Authority

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said he asked Attorney General Paula Dow
to step down to take a temporary regulatory role at the Port Authority of
New York and New Jersey, which he accused of “gross mismanagement.” Christie
said Dow will be first deputy general counsel at the agency, which operates
the George Washington Bridge and other Hudson River crossings between New
Jersey and New York. She will be replaced by chief counsel Jeff Chiesa,
Christie, 49, told reporters today during a press conference in Trenton.

[13]Cuccinelli needs to resign as Va. attorney general

It's easy to make the case — and we will, at a later date — that Ken
Cuccinelli II, the attorney general of Virginia, already has done a lot to
politicize the office he holds, and thereby diminish its status.
Nonetheless, Mr. Cuccinelli seems intent on going a step further. Having
announced [14]his intention to run for governor, Mr. Cuccinelli (R) is
bucking more than 60 years of bipartisan Virginia history by [15]refusing to
do the right thing and resign. Instead, he is insisting on remaining the
state’s top lawyer “until the last day of my term,” even as he holds
fundraisers, attends events and campaigns for governor. Thus Mr. Cuccinelli
will inevitably further politicize his office, adding a partisan cast to
every significant move it makes.

[16]NC's AG at White House for consumer agency push

North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper is visiting the White House,
joining the congressional battle over the agency protecting consumers from
financial industry abuses. The White House says Cooper is joining fellow
attorneys general Wednesday from Maryland, Mississippi and Utah in calling
on Congress to confirm one of their former colleagues to head the Consumer
Financial Protection Bureau. Cooper is immediate past president of the
National Association of Attorneys General.

[17]Dave Freed Announces for Attorney General

In the crowded lobby of the Cumberland County courthouse, District Attorney
Dave Freed launched his bid for Pa. Attorney General Tuesday afternoon. He
repeatedly emphasized his record as a tough-on-crime prosecutor. “The vast
majority of my career has been spent prosecuting criminals. I’ve prosecuted
capital murder cases, run grand jury investigations, taken down child
pornographers, locked up drug dealers, child molesters and arsonists,” he
said. Freed was flanked by several of his colleagues – District Attorney
James Martin of Lehigh County; Tom Kearney of York County; and Shawn Wagner
of Adams County – and introduced by Ed Marisco of Dauphin County.

state.

[19]Inslee wants 6 gubernatorial debates with McKenna
_The Seattle Times – 12/5/11_
U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee wants six debates with Attorney General Rob McKenna in
the lead up to the governor's election next November, but McKenna's campaign
isn't happy with the initial terms. A news release issued by the Inslee
campaign on Monday calls for splitting the debate locations among central,
eastern and western Washington, and having debates on both television and
radio. Inslee wants two of the debates to focus on jobs and the economy and
one on education.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II (R) will reveal his plans next
week to run for governor in 2013, according to well-placed Republican
sources. Cuccinelli, a tea party hero who garnered national attention
for [22]suing the federal government over the health-care law, expects to
make a formal announcement after the legislative session in the spring,
according to the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity so they
could speak freely about his plans.

[23]AG Eric Schneiderman: Same-Sex Marriage Is Legal, Despite What
Livingston County Judge Says

Schneiderman said he disagreed with Tuesday’s ruling by acting Livingston
County Supreme Court Judge Robert Wiggins - which allowed a lawsuit brought
by gay marriage opponents to move forward – but has not decided whether to
file an appeal. “The important thing for everyone to make clear… is that the
marriage equality law is validly in place,” Schneiderman said.

Kathleen Granahan Kane, a Democratic candidate for state attorney general
next year, hit the national television airwaves as an expert child sex abuse
prosecutor, commenting on the Jerry Sandusky case at Penn State University.
Over a few days more than a week ago, Mrs. Kane appeared twice on the MSNBC
programs "Hardball with Chris Matthews" and "NewsNation with Tamron Hall,"
and in a report on "ABC World News Tonight." Ms. Randol said Mr. Matthews
repeatedly had another Democratic candidate for attorney general, former
U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, an Iraq war veteran, to comment on veteran’s
issues.

[25]MT Attorney General candidate speaks out about infraction with the law
_KRTV Great Falls News – 11/20/11_
MT State Senator Jim Shockley, who is vying for the state's top law
enforcement position, is speaking out about his own infraction with the law.
Shockley, of Victor, was cited for driving with an open container in his car
in January. He was well below the legal limit for drunk driving when he was
cited. Shortly after the incident he stepped down from his role as the chair
of the Legislative Senate Judiciary committee. He apologized for the
infraction but argued it is less of an offense than getting a speeding
ticket.
