Good afternoon. I hope you are all well. In anticipation of the upcoming Democratic Convention I have dusted off my notes of lessons learned from the 2012 Convention, had conversations with political historians as well as reviewed the speaking, media and content role/s of former Democratic Vice Presidents and Presidents at Democratic Conventions in which they are not seeking a higher office and/or reelection. There are 87 days until the Convention. A review of the role of Democratic Presidents and Vice Presidents at Conventions reveals a strong correlation between their popularity rating, their presence in the Convention Hall and prime time speaking slots. VPOTUS has a 48 percent popularity rating among registered voters and an 85 percent approval rating among Democrats. For this, and a multitude of other reasons - the Convention being in Philly, the popularity of the Moonshot, tenure and depth of service to the party - the Biden Team should plan on a meaningful presence inside and outside of the Hall and start preparing accordingly. I have attached a memo that includes the following: Section I is an overview of planning suggestions and proposed next steps to prepare for the July Convention. Section II includes a power point summary of Convention activities of previous Democratic Vice Presidents and Presidents not seeking a higher office/re-election. Section III provides a detailed overview of the specific activities of Vice President Mondale, President Carter, President Clinton and Vice President Gore. Please let me know if you have any thoughts or would like to discuss the document in greater detail.
