This past weekend I spoke at the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) annual Summer Conference in Ocean City about the future that I see for Maryland, and I want to share that vision with you. Among the key elements that I stressed for building a bright future for all Marylanders is ensuring that every child, regardless of where they live, has access to a world-class education with a highly-qualified teacher at the front of the classroom. I also focused on the importance of improving the health of our communities, modernizing our infrastructure, and partnering with small businesses to grow Maryland's economy.

The greatest challenge of our time, particularly as we recover from this recession, is to address the persistent gaps and disparities that exist in our communities. In counties throughout Maryland, each of us is strengthened when all of us succeed, and we all suffer when members of our communities don’t reach their full potential.
