Rice also added five receptions for 49 yards, including a pair of huge third-down conversions in the second half. After three games he has 395 total yards, 14 receptions, and three touchdowns. He'll look to add to those totals Thursday against a Cleveland team that he torched for 349 total yards and two touchdowns in two games last season. Cam Newton - (Mon, Sep 24, 2012) Countdown Daily Hot Topics: Week 3 Prim Siripipat and Antonio Pierce answer your facebook questions /media/motion/2012/0924/com_120924_nfl_CDDHotTopics/com_120924_nfl_CDDHotTopics.jpg Cam Newton - (Fri, Sep 21, 2012) Concerned About Cam Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith debate how concerned they are about Cam Newton after his performance against the Giants. /media/motion/2012/0921/dm_120921_nfl_ft_newton_debate/dm_120921_nfl_ft_newton_debate.jpg Larry Fitzgerald - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Fitzgerald had nine catches for 114 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Eagles. Fitzgerald was starting to scare fantasy owners after two games that could be described as mediocre and awful, respectively. He put on a clinic against the Eagles' secondary Sunday and everyone can breath a sigh of relief heading into next week's contest against the Dolphins who were just torched by Jets' wideout Santonio Holmes. Larry Fitzgerald - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Kolb Shines Against Former Team Kevin Kolb threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 record after defeating the Eagles 27-6. /media/motion/2012/0923/dm_120923_nfl_eagles_cardinals/dm_120923_nfl_eagles_cardinals.jpg Trent Richardson - (Mon, Sep 24, 2012) Mint Condition: Crimson Cardboard The defending BCS National Champs have their own trading card set, and Michele Steele is joined by Upper Deck brand manager Brandon Miller to discuss what collectors can expect to find in it. /media/motion/2012/0924/dm_120924_mintcondition_alabama/dm_120924_mintcondition_alabama.jpg Trent Richardson - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Richardson (knee) had 12 carries for 27 yards and a touchdown, as well as six catches for 24 yards Sunday against the Bills. His yardage output was certainly a disappointment, but fantasy owners have to feel a little bit better that Richardson was able to get into the end zone for the second straight week. He's got a very tough matchup next week, when the Browns travel to Baltimore on Thursday night. Frank Gore - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Gore had 12 carries for 63 yards, one catch for nine yards and a lost fumble Sunday against the Vikings. Lining up against a very tough run defense, Gore was still able to average a solid 5.3 yards per carry. Unfortunately, the 49ers' offense turned the ball over three times and couldn't maintain the rushing attack, therefore limiting Gore's production. It was his first game this season without a touchdown but he remains the leader in the Niners' backfield. Jeremy Maclin - (Mon, Sep 24, 2012) Eagles coach Andy Reid expects Maclin (hip) to play against the Giants on Sunday, Wilmington News Journal writer Geoff Mosher reports. Maclin's owners will obviously need to follow his progress in practice rather than locking Maclin into their lineups at this point in the week, but Reid's optimism is a good start. Jeremy Maclin - (Fri, Sep 21, 2012) Maclin (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, the Eagles' official Twitter page reports. Maclin aggravated his hip pointer in Week 2 and was unable to fully participate in practice this week. With Maclin out, Damaris Johnson is expected to start outside opposite DeSean Jackson, with Jason Avant starting in the slot. Jeremy Maclin - (Fri, Sep 21, 2012) Maclin (hip) sat out practice Friday, Martin Frank of the Delaware News Journal reports. Maclin missed practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday. Although there has been no official word on his status for Week 3, his chances of playing after missing Friday's practice are looking very iffy. The hard part for fantasy owners is that he doesn't play until 4:05 ET on Sunday. If Maclin sits, Jason Avant and Damaris Johnson are the receivers next in line to benefit. Vernon Davis - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Vikings Hand 49ers 1st Loss Christian Ponder connected with Kyle Rudolph for two touchdowns to lead the Vikings over the 49ers 24-13. /media/motion/2012/0923/dm_120923_nfl_49ers_vikings/dm_120923_nfl_49ers_vikings.jpg Vernon Davis - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Davis had five catches for 53 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Vikings. Davis now has four touchdowns in three games this season and is clearly Alex Smith's favorite target near the end zone, which is great news for fantasy owners of the tight end. With all the preseason talk of Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham, Davis is doing his best to join the top tier at his position. Vernon Davis - (Fri, Sep 21, 2012) Through two games this season, Davis has been targeted 12 times and has eight catches for 116 yards and three touchdowns. Even with the improved receiving corps, Davis remains one of quarterback Alex Smith's favorites and has been targeted for 21.1-percent of the team's pass attempts, second only to Michael Crabtree. He is averaging 14.5 yards per catch and already has half the number of touchdowns scored than he did in all of last season. He is a no-brainer must-start every week, but in case you needed an added incentive, of the four touchdowns the Vikings defense has given up through the air, two of them went to tight ends. Tony Gonzalez - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Gonzalez had nine catches for 91 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Chargers. Gonzalez was targeted a game-high 12 times and has now scored a touchdown in three straight games. He's got another favorable matchup next week against the Panthers, who just gave up 73 yards and a touchdown to Martellus Bennett of the Giants. Tony Romo - (Mon, Sep 24, 2012) Romo escaped with a win Sunday versus Tampa Bay, completing 25-of-39 passes for 283 yards without a touchdown while throwing one interception and losing two fumbles. Cowboys fans should be encouraged that Romo still got the victory despite posting one of his annual mistake-filled clunkers, but his fantasy owners won't be thrilled with the raw output. On the bright side, from a fantasy perspective, Romo and Miles Austin re-established their chemistry Sunday, which should post some dividends down the road, but overall, the Dallas offense has been sputtering badly through the first three games -- averaging 15.7 points -- and Week 4's matchup against the Bears doesn't figure to make things any easier on the unit. Tony Romo - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Romo: 'This Is A Very Satisfying Win' Tony Romo discusses how great it felt for the Cowboys to grind out a tough 16-10 win against the Buccaneers. /media/motion/2012/0923/dal_120923_Tony_Romo_Post_Game/dal_120923_Tony_Romo_Post_Game.jpg Michael Bush - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Bears Rough Up Rams, 23-6 The Bears defense came up big in their 23-6 win over the Rams. /media/motion/2012/0923/dm_120923_nfl_highlight_bears_rams/dm_120923_nfl_highlight_bears_rams.jpg Michael Bush - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Bush had 18 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 18 yards Sunday against the Rams. Bush was used as Chicago's lead back with Matt Forte (ankle) out and he put in serviceable numbers, hitting pay dirt once. Backup Kahlil Bell saw 11 touches, so it looks as if the Bears aren't going to give all the backfield duties to Bush, while Forte is out. Bush is the best bet for production of the two, though in Week 4 he does face a Cowboys defense that just locked down the Bucs. Michael Bush - (Fri, Sep 21, 2012) With Matt Forte out this week, Bush is in line to start at running back for the Bears on Sunday against the Rams. With Forte out of the mix, Bush will take aim (at home) Sunday at a Rams' defense that gave up 89 yards (on 16 carries for a 5.6 YPC) in Week 3's win over the Redskins. Ben Tate - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Tate had eight carries for 26 yards and lost a fumble Sunday against the Broncos. A disappointing performance for Tate, who scored two touchdowns in Week 2. He'll continue to get above-average touches for a backup running back but Arian Foster will likely continue to lead the Texans in carries and rushing yards as long as he's healthy, leaving Tate's fantasy upside somewhat limited. David Akers - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Akers was 2-for-3 on field goal attempts and made his only extra-point during Sunday's loss to the Vikings. Akers kicked a pair of 29-yard field goals but was blocked in the second quarter on a 43-yard attempt. It was an off-day for the 49ers offense so Akers' work was limited. He remains a top kicking option though for fantasy purposes. Brent Celek - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Celek had two catches for 36 yards Sunday against Arizona. 34 of Celek's 36 receiving yards came on one play, so his afternoon could have been a lot worse had he not broken that one deep. With Jeremy Maclin out, Celek was expected to get more looks but he was targeted only six times despite Michael Vick throwing 37 passes. Alex Smith - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Vikings Hand 49ers 1st Loss Christian Ponder connected with Kyle Rudolph for two touchdowns to lead the Vikings over the 49ers 24-13. /media/motion/2012/0923/dm_120923_nfl_49ers_vikings/dm_120923_nfl_49ers_vikings.jpg Alex Smith - (Sun, Sep 23, 2012) Smith completed 24-of-35 passes for 204 yards, a touchdown and an interception against the Vikings on Sunday. He also rushed four times for 26 yards and lost a fumble. It was a tough game for Smith and the 49ers who couldn't seem to build any momentum or sustain drives down field. Smith did have another touchdown pass to tight end Vernon Davis, but he saw his streak of pass attempts without an interception end at 249 with a late pick-off in the fourth quarter by Vikings rookie Josh Robinson. His fumble came after being sacked on the team's final drive of the game. Smith will look to bounce back next week against a tough Jets defense that has allowed an average of 218.7 yards per game through the air, but may have lost Pro Bowl cornerback Darelle Revis to a knee injury. Alex Smith - (Fri, Sep 21, 2012) Smith is off to the best start of his career with 437 passing yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions and a 115.9 passer rating which ranks second in the NFL. Smith has blossomed into more than just a game-managing quarterback this season and is now becoming more of a factor when opposing coaches formulate their weekly game plans. "He's making some plays for their offense down the field, not just intermediate routes, which was the knock on him in the past," Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said to the Minnesota media. "He plays with a lot of confidence and he seems to really have a command of what they want to get done at the quarterback position." The Vikings defense has given up an average of 242 yards and two touchdowns through the air this season, so if you're in a two-quarterback league, Smith should be considered a viable start this week. Denarius Moore - (Mon, Sep 24, 2012) Moore had five catches for 45 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's victory over the Raiders. Moore did not make any big plays Sunday, but the touchdown helped him have a productive fantasy day. Though Moore's explosiveness makes him a viable fantasy option most weeks, be aware that he could see added attention from the Broncos' talented corners in Week 4 if teammate Darrius Heyward-Bey (concussion) is unable to play.
