The Dowden Terrace Swimming pool has extended its season to allow a doggy swim.
The pool level will be lowered and steps in the shallow end allow easy access
for those wanting to ease the way into the water. There is an acre of grassy and
treed hills for those who choose to use alternative exercise. Life Guard will be
on duty. There will an adoption event and Pavilion tables for dog organizations.
The pool is located just minutes from I-395, Seminary Road or Columbia Pike, in
a culdesac community. Enter on Dawes Avenue across Seminary Road from the Alexandria
campus of Northern Virginia Community College and the Coca Cola Company Plant.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime event for families and dogs to come together and share
something very special with one another-walking in the same direction with a common
purpose of helping dogs.

Homeward Trails is partnering with nationally-recognized North Shore Animal League

Cesar Millan will kick-off the event with a 1.5 mile Pack Walk. After the walk,
you'll enjoy a fun-filled afternoon at the National Mall-transformed into an amazing
playground for kids and dogs.

Dog is My Copilot Event

The weekend of September 28-29th Pilots and Paws [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001wSjuQeArUH9AfkL--wbyy5iGfESJvRMAfthSJjMOj0M_uMme57CTHpwRyG-EWEsUQmg5IylX_y3ekro07QaduU1Cag09avff8gcKB1PimaFO209iaqAvBA==]
will be holding its fourth annual awareness event, the "Dog Is My Copilot" Flyway
and Homeward Trails is one of three local DC animal rescue groups participating.

Approximately 200 homeless animals from North Carolina will head via plane to DC
to find foster and adoptive homes. Homeward Trails volunteers will be anxiously
waiting to pick up our animals to whisk them away to the next chapter in their
lives.

The event is expected to be the largest one-day annual event in the history of
Pilots N Paws. In 2011, pilots transported 174 dogs and 1 kitten out of Florence,
SC in memory of the Chesterfield 22. After the BP oil spill in 2010, they flew
171 animals out of New Orleans. This year they expect to supersede their record
of animals flown in one weekend.
