Stan talks about a BLT kind of guy. > > This is September, the 9th month of the year; > • The 9th Tradition: A.A., as such, ought never be organized; but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve. > • The 9th Step: Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. > • The 9th Promise: Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. > > Thought for the Day > One of the mottoes of A.A. is “First Things First.” This means that we should always keep in mind that alcohol is our number one problem. We must never let any other problem, whether of family, business, friends, or anything else take precedence in our minds over our alcoholic problem. As we go along in A.A., we learn to recognize the things that may upset us emotionally. When we find ourselves getting upset over something, we must realize that it’s a luxury we alcoholics can’t afford. Anything that makes us forget our number one problem is dangerous to us. Am I keeping sobriety in first place in my mind? > > Meditation for the Day > Spiritual progress is the law of your being. Try to see around you more and more of beauty and truth, knowledge and power. Today try to be stronger, braver, more loving as a result of what you did yesterday. This law of spiritual progress gives meaning and purpose to your life. Always expect better things ahead. You can accomplish much good through the stregth of God’s spirit in you. Never be too discouraged. The world is sure to get better, in spite of setbacks fo war, hate, and greed. Be part of the cure of the world’s ills, rather than part of the disease. > > Prayer for the Day > I pray that I may keep progressing in the better life. I pray that I may be a part of the forces for good in the world. > > Source: Twenty-Four Hours a Day, Richmond Walker, Copyright © 1975, Hazeldon Foundation, printed in the USA. Plenty of meetings at good convenient times and instant "family" as well. In 4 meetings before Thanksgiving I heard four new things--- > > > 1. Tell newcomers to write their names and sobriety dates inside thecover of the big book because that's the most important statement in the book. "I stopped drinking on that date." > Without that sentence, nothing else matters, nothing else is possible. > > 2. Sponsor listens to a friend talking of being agitated and upset in spite of being sober for five years. Sponsor hears friend out and asks with a smile "Have you ever been five years sober before?" > > 3. A chap with 27 days sober says, " I was a BLT kind of guy. That's not bacon, lettuce, and tomato. It's beggar, liar and thief." > > 4.Old guy, 21 years sober after many earlier years fighting the program and relapsing, concludes "It's simple. Put the plug in the jug. Stop being a louse. Go to meetings and keep going. Help others." > > > Always we begin again --- with love and merciful service, Stan > Friends are God's way of taking care of us. > ODAAT since 4/25/64.=2
