Dear R.hunter,

I know a little something about diplomacy - and for diplomacy to work, both parties need to act in good faith. Unfortunately we've seen nothing to indicate the Tea Party acts on any principle other than "my way or the highway."

So it's critical that in this midterm election we keep progressives like my friend Chris Coons in the Senate. With so many important issues at stake - from women's health to Medicare to national security - we can't risk losing our Democratic majority.

To fortify his campaign against special-interest attacks, Chris has simply got to meet this crucial end-of-quarter FEC deadline. I hope you'll join me in supporting him with a contribution now.

Whether he's fighting to extend unemployment benefits or create 21st century manufacturing jobs, Chris has been a strong, results-oriented voice for Delaware. And of course, his work on the Foreign Relations Committee protecting American interests made me a fan long ago.

Despite all of Chris' accomplishments, if we learned one thing in 2010 - when his opponent raised $7 million in just a few weeks - it's that no seat is safe. We can't wait for the 2014 version of Christine O'Donnell to materialize, along with the accompanying millions in attack ads. Not when our majority - and, indeed, our country's future - is at stake.

Given what I'm seeing across the country, no one can sit this election out. Republicans are energized and their right-wing backers are ready to break the bank. Complacency is not an option.
