By Kyle Cheney The following newsletter is an abridged version of Campaign Pro's Morning Score. For an earlier morning read on exponentially more races - and for a more comprehensive aggregation of the day's most important campaign news - sign up for Campaign Pro today. ( http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854bb086819ad7b90c398f57d5623e3d9ddaea2c083398313801 http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854bd3c3b25aa2391e112d39df1992bb24533bc41aa9ebfefec1 ) POPPING THIS MORNING - "Top staffers at RGA, DGA form consulting firm," by POLITICO's James Hohmann: "Over the past four years, the men who ran the Republican and Democratic governors' associations competed fiercely. Now, they're going into business together. RGA executive director Phil Cox and his DGA counterpart Colm O'Comartun are forming 50-State LLC, a bipartisan consulting firm that will help corporate clients navigate state governments. "The pairing may be less unlikely than it seems. The gubernatorial associations have had a less acrimonious relationship than the parties' Senate and House campaign arms. That's partly because the RGA and DGA can collect unlimited corporate money, and some non-ideological donors give money to both. So Cox and O'Comartun found themselves making regular joint appearances in boardrooms before shared patrons." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b8e99ddd8ffa1ad836f4567cddc8670bfa9a01a6df94f01c8 http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b8e99ddd8ffa1ad836f4567cddc8670bfa9a01a6df94f01c8 THE SUPER-LAWYER - "Democratic lawyer crafted campaign finance deal," by POLITICO's Kenneth P. Vogel: "A powerful Democratic lawyer helped craft a provision that was slipped into a year-end spending bill allowing political parties to raise huge new pools of cash - including some designated for legal fees that are likely going to be collected by his own firm. Marc Elias, a partner at the Seattle-based law firm Perkins Coie, was called in to advise outgoing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's aides on the campaign finance proposal on Tuesday, as they negotiated it with representatives from House Speaker John Boehner's office, multiple sources confirm. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b7cc3c6e37360832c3e088c9cc17e0bceb84a39992d6cde42 http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b7cc3c6e37360832c3e088c9cc17e0bceb84a39992d6cde42 CROMNIBUS NOTES - How the senators with 2016 races voted on Saturday night: Yes (11 R, 7 D): Murkowski (R-Alaska), Boozman (R-Ark.), Bennet (D-Colo.), Blunt (R-Mo.), Isakson (R-Ga.), Schatz (D-Hawaii), Kirk (R-Ill.), Coats (R-Ind.), Mikulski (D-Md.), Reid (D-Nev.), Ayotte (R-N.H.), Schumer (D-N.Y.), Burr (R-N.C.), Hoeven (R-N.D.), Toomey (R-Pa.), Thune (R-S.D.), Leahy (D-Vt.), Murray (D-Wash.) Success, though, may be almost besides the point: Worst case, Kasich is out there fighting for his cause, and raising his profile, ahead of a potential 2016 presidential candidacy. "While his would-be rivals follow the traditional path of logging miles in Iowa and New Hampshire, Kasich is pursuing a more unorthodox approach. Fresh off a landslide reelection in the quintessential swing state of Ohio, the 62-year-old governor made the first stop of a planned multi-state tour in Phoenix this last week. Next up are Idaho and Utah. Of it gets some traction, it could help Kasich lay the groundwork for a presidential bid, or guarantee a spot on vice presidential short lists. If it doesn't, he's happy starting a national conversation." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b7132a127ac6513509ba5f96f2477afe9aa214a318ed1f01f http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b7132a127ac6513509ba5f96f2477afe9aa214a318ed1f01f - "Rubio talks 2016 with donors," by Anna Palmer: Marco Rubio gave his top fundraising lieutenants last week the most serious signal to date that he is seriously weighing a 2016 presidential bid. The Florida Republican walked the roughly two dozen donors, some who had raised $200,000 for him, through the pros and cons of running for Senate or the White House in 2016. He told them their fundraising prowess was 'needed more now than ever' at the confab at the W Hotel last Wednesday, according to multiple sources. Rubio said he expected to make a decision in the first quarter of 2015. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b0a7a4bc37906b6683e3bb0e6b81ad2d7be78f96b2a3721ce http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b0a7a4bc37906b6683e3bb0e6b81ad2d7be78f96b2a3721ce - "Elizabeth Warren's anti-'cromnibus' moves inspire liberals hoping for 2016 challenge to Clinton," by Katie Glueck: "Progressive activists ... largely concur on this: With every recent anti-establishment move, the Massachusetts Democrat grows more attractive as a 2016 candidate, both in her own right and as a progressive foil for Hillary Clinton. Such sentiments were on vivid display this week at RootsCamp, a gathering of some 2,000 progressive activists held in Washington, D.C. ... One panel at the conference, for instance, was called #HillaryProblems, and it delved into the disconnect between the Democratic establishment and the grass roots. Another was devoted to the 'Draft Warren' movement, and it included members of groups such as MoveOn.org, which has pledged to spend at least $1 million to nudge the senator into the race, something she has said she won't do." http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b24e5d82384af9a9a166f6887a435f94dddf90f51399e548f http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b24e5d82384af9a9a166f6887a435f94dddf90f51399e548f SOUTHERN SUPER-PRIMARY - "Three more states aim to join Georgia bid for SEC primary in '16," by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Greg Bluestein: "Secretary of State Brian Kemp's efforts to forge an "SEC" presidential primary for Southern states is gaining steam. His counterparts in Mississippi, Arkansas and Alabama have sent over letters indicating their support for setting March 1 as a new regional primary in 2016. He's also working with election officials in Louisiana and South Carolina to coordinate the timing ... They would join a growing crowd holding their primaries on that date. Tennessee, Texas and Florida already plan to open their polls on March 1, 2016, as have a few key non-SEC states. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b19aac0ae99b81bf0b1852656257fdd78bffe08103e92d6bf http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b19aac0ae99b81bf0b1852656257fdd78bffe08103e92d6bf -"Florida GOP unlikely to flout RNC orders on 2016's presidential primary," by the Tampa Bay Times' Adam Smith: "This time, no one is talking about ignoring the rules set forth by the Republican National Committee, at least so far. Party leaders are signaling they are content for Florida to share the spotlight with several other states on what is likely to be a 'Super Tuesday' primary day on March 1, 2016 ... The state GOP's newfound deference for the RNC's preferred primary calendar stems largely from the national party finally learning its lesson from Florida's prior snubs ... Florida's share of delegates would shrink from nearly 100 to 12 - which would give it only slightly more say than Guam in picking the 2016 Republican nominee. That would certainly be no help to Bush or Rubio. http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b1d4209884cb9895d3111c578a8addf9c32c27697c3c3120a http://go.politicoemail.com/?qs=ecc305f48aa6854b1d4209884cb9895d3111c578a8addf9c32c27697c3c3120a FRIENDLY FIRE - Senate Conservatives Action, a super PAC affiliated with Senate Conservatives Fund, is airing radio ads ripping House leaders for supporting spending legislation that continues funding for federal immigration functions into early next year.
