With Ana Usharek, NDI is working in 330 schools; and, as a result of the
program, school children have launched 140 grassroots initiatives with
measurable results thanks to their passion and dedication. They are able to
meet with local authorities and have had tangible results, such as
installing central heating in schools, ensuring safety of school children,
building playgrounds, recycling of waste, etc. While there is no hard data,
we believe that this type of program builds citizenship for young people --
an antidote to extremist ideology.

NDI provides only technical assistance and no funding for the initiative.
Results belong to the participants and they have continued to inspire and
even teach us how best to support their efforts. Credit also goes to
Country Director Niti Shehu and the entire NDI team in Washington and Amman.
