Mysterious things from the past are about to surface." Director: Bogdan Mirica 2016/Drama/Romania/104 min/Romanian title: Câini/Romanian with English subtitles Cast: Dragos Bucur, Vlad Ivanov, Gheorghe Visu, Costel Cascaval FIPRESCI Award, Un Certain Regard, Cannes, 2016 Roman returns to the land near the border with Ukraine he has just inherited from his grandfather. Fully decided to sell this vast but desolate property, he is warned by the regional police that his grandfather was a local crime lord and that his men will not let go of the territory - and their smuggling business - without a fight. Adrian Sitaru is a director and writer born in 1971. His feature films were awarded prizes in a number of prestigious festivals: Domestic (2013), Best Intentions (Din dragoste cu cele mai bune intentii, 2011), Hooked (Pescuit sportiv, 2008), Illegitimate (2016), The Fixer (2016). He is also the author of several short films: Waves (Valuri, 2007), The Cage (Colivia, 2009), Lord (2009), House Party (Chefu', 2012), Art (2014). One of the Romanian acting greats, Gheorghe Visu (born 1951) studied at the "I. L. Caragiale" Institute of Theatre and Cinema Arts, in Bucharest. A theater, film and TV actor of versatile skills, his characters share a note of mystery and a shadow of unspoken sadness, which are almost his trademark. From his cinema debut in 1974, he appeared in more than forty films. He is one of the stalwarts of the well-loved "Teatru Mic" in Bucharest, and in recent years he was one of the main characters in the hugely successful Romanian soap opera, Inima de tigan (Gypsy Heart). As a film actor, Gheorghe Visu has worked with important directors from the older generation, such as Dan Pita (Sand Cliffs) or Lucian Pintilie (The Oak, Next Stop Paradise), but also with young directors, such as Bogdan Mirica - with a landmark role in Mirica's film, Dogs. ---------- Full program at: https://romanianfilmfestivalwashingtondc.wordpress.com/ https://www.facebook.com/romanian.embassy.us/ http://silver.afi.com/Browsing/EventsAndExperiences/EventDetails/0000000028 PLEASE REDIRECT THIS ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED.
