Large Item Pickup June 5 & 12

Large item pickup in Long Beach will take place Monday, June 5 and June 12, 2017. Place large items at the curbside by 6 a.m. next to your garbage receptacle. Restricted items are appliances with freon, cement, televisions, household chemicals, paints, tires or batteries. Please bundle items such as wood, trim or carpeting, not to exceed 4ft in length. Long Beach Summer Camp and Tennis Lessons – Signups Begin June 1

Long Beach Summer Camp will be held at the Long Beach Community Center starting June 19 and finishing August 4, Mon-Fri, 9-11:30 a.m. CST. Children ages 3-11 can participate in summer camp for the entire program or on a weekly basis.

Tennis Lessons are at the same times for the same ages.

Both residents and non-residents are welcome. Applications can be found at Long Beach Town Hall, the Community Center or by emailing [longbeachsummercamp@gmail.com] starting June 1, 2017. Volunteer Beach Cleanup – June 3

Community Beach Cleanup day is Saturday June 3, 2017 (morning, no set time). Any litter may be put in bags/toters and large items left at stop for the LB Street Department to haul away.

Tennis Courts and Baseball Backstop Fence

The Parks Department have begun to replace/update the backstop fence near the Community Center and will soon be repaving the Tennis Courts.

Country Club to Replace Fences

The chain link fences along Karwick Road and Moore Road will soon be getting an upgrade thanks to the Long Beach Country Club. Estimated to begin in June 2017, the Club will be replacing the fence along Karwick Road with a nicer black metal fence. Replacement of the Moore Road fence is likely to occur in 2018.

New Town Entryway Signage

The Civic Association has graciously agreed to fund the installation of two new Town entry signs along Karwick Road and Moore Road. The “Welcome to Long Beach” signs are planned to match the red brick pillars found near many of the Beach Stop entrances. Stay tuned for more information regarding placement, final design and timing.

Parking Passes for Melrose Park and the Lot Behind Town Hall

Each home may receive 4 annual hang tag parking passes, which can be retrieved between 6am-10pm by stopping into the police department in Town Hall. There is no cost, and you simply need to show some proof of residence with your Long Beach address (water bill, cable bill, etc.). No overnight parking is allowed in either location.

Update on Stop 24 Improvement Plan

As part of a plan to enhance the view and overall site at Stop 24, the invasive trees and coverage were removed along the dunes side of the Stop behind the old Water Pumping Station. The Town is working with Save the Dunes on the proper planting/restoration on the dunes side, which will have a grassy look similar to what can be viewed along the beach side in Duneland Beach. Global Engineering is in the process of reviewing costs for the safe demolition of the Water Pumping Station structure, which will further open the view of the lakefront. A representative from Global Engineering is expected to present an update at the July 10 Town Council meeting at 7 p.m. CT in Town Hall. The following new ordinances, or revisions to existing ordinances, have been proposed. All listed are currently in draft form and being discussed at the Advisory Plan Commission. Firework Usage

Consumer fireworks are only allowed to be discharged on private property between 5 p.m. and two hours after sunset on June 29, June 30, July 1, July 2, July 3, July 5, July 6, July 7, July 8 and July 9; between 10 a.m. and midnight on July 4; and between 10 a.m. on December 31 and 1 a.m. on January 1. Fireworks are not permitted on Memorial Day weekend. There's a $100 fine per offense. Be safe and please be respectful to neighbors.
