There he goesagain, Trump, Putin’s “useful idiot.” Every day the Russian ghost envelopes himlike a cheap suit. The more Trumpwiggles, dissembles, lies and throws out chaff to escape his complicity orincompetence, the more he sinks in the morass with his approval rating,according to Gallup, at an unprecedented 38 per cent and heading down. This is the context in which to look at thefiring of the FBI director. Ratings, Russia, Russia, Russia. Trump was warnednot to hire Flynn as the national security advisor by the real president of theUnited States, Barack Obama, yet Trump ignored the warning. Then after he tookoffice, Trump was warned by the Attorney General Sally Yates about Flynn againand he ignored that warning for 18 days before acting to get rid of him, withgreat reluctance, it seems. What do theRussians have on Trump that he bends backwards not to offend them? What of hisbusiness dealings does he owe them to allow the Russians to penetrate the veryheart of our government? Previous to allthis, Chris Christie headed Trump’s transition. The question is, did he vetFlynn, Bannon, Gorka, Watnik, to name a few? If he did, what are they doing in the White House with their sordidconnections and background? Next came Pence at the head of the transition. Whatdid he know about the aforementioned? If they were not vetted, did he vet them?How many others in today’s White House have not been vetted properly? How manymore Russian moles have either befriended Trump or have penetrated the highestlevels of the White House and other parts of the government? It is long pastthe time to get a straight answer to these and the many other questionsthreatening our very national security. American democracyfaces a clear and unprecedented danger. As John Dean told Richard Nixon beforehe was impeached, “there’s a cancer growing on the Presidency.” Unlike 1973,there seem to be no “profiles in courage” to step forward, putting countrybefore party and self-serving ambition to force a thorough, competent,independent investigation. Trump told hisfollowers he was going to “drain the swamp.” Knowing nothing and not knowing that he knows nothing, Trump didn’t knowthe swamp is his Republican-controlled Congress, the Republican factions in theHouse, led by Ryan, and the Republican Senate, led by McConnell. This is the same group that did everythingthey could to oppose the programs of President Obama for eight years. Always putting their own dirty little schemesahead of the welfare of the citizens they were supposed to represent. Trump’s swamp isnow filled with dozens of vulture corporate types and people opposed to thevery departments they are supposed to manage. After 100 plus days, chaos reignssupreme with corruption, hate, and Russian penetration of our government. How very sad.
