Hi guys,

First off, thank you for wanting me to stay on with you, Beau, in this new capacity. I’m very excited, and really think we can do some very cool stuff together. It’s exactly 2 years and 1 week since I first accepted a position on your team (December 14, 2012). Nice symmetry.

Since Feb of 2013, I’ve been making $162,000/year. That’s $13,500 a month. Actually, it was a little more for the first 8 months, as I had to pay insurance for me and Brianna. Once she got coverage up here, I joined her plan and reduced my consulting fee. And actually, I didn't charge the campaign anything in December of this year (will bill it in January instead).

I imagine that SG would be willing to bring me on at that full amount, but I don’t know. Looks like his staff attorneys make about $125,000/year. Still, I would hope that he'd hire me at that amount if he were hiring me outside of Beau joining the firm.

I think there needs to be a very clear split between what I would make from G&E and what I would make from the campaign. If it’s 50-50, that’s great, but if we can get it to more of a 60/40 or even 70/30 split, we'd save more campaign funds, and I’m all for that. Right now, our monthly overhead is about $5,000 without my salary, rent and utilities. (I'm assuming we'd shutter the campaign office.)

I think we have to see what Stuart would be willing to pay, but here are options.

If we do 50/50 at $175,000 (what I hope is a reasonable raise), that’s $87,500 from each entity. Monthly overhead for the campaign would be $12,291.
If we do 60/40 at $175,000, that’s $105,000 from G&E, $70,000 from BFD. Monthly overhead for the campaign would be about $10,800.
If we do 70/30 at $175,000, that's $122,500 from G&E, $52,500 from BFD. Monthly overhead for the campaign would be about $9,300.

Before we get too far with deciding how the salary would be split, I think it's important to define the role I would have at G&E. From that should follow the split. If I'm truly spending 50% of my time doing campaign work, we should do an even split. But will there be that much campaign work for the first 6 months? I don't want to be in a position where the campaign funds are being used to pay me for different work. Maybe that's a discussion I have directly with Stuart. I'm still a bit unclear about what your role will be specifically.

As for timing. Brianna and I are going away from Jan 10-15. We have our 2014 campaign finance reports due Jan 20. I'm happy to start with you on Jan 7, or after the reports are filed. Whatever makes sense for you.
