I am delighted to invite you to a special screening of the memorable film 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS (4 luni, 3 săptămâni și 2 zile) directed by Cristian Mungiu.

Let’s celebrate together the 10th anniversary of this masterpiece which fully deserved its Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2007. On this special occasion, please join me in welcoming to Washington the fabulously talented lead actress Anamaria Marinca. Anamaria will hold a Q&A session after the screening tomorrow, Tuesday 30 May at 7.00 pm, at AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center

Anamaria Marinca (born 1 April 1978 in Iasi) made her screen debut with the Channel 4 film Sex Traffic, for which she won the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress. She won several awards for her performance in 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, and was nominated for the European Film Award for Best Actress, London Film Critics Circle Award for Actress of the Year, Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress and National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actress. In 2008, at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival, she was presented the Shooting Stars Award by the European Film Promotion.

Synopsis: Powerful drama about personal choices and political repression during the late Ceaușescu regime. With her friend Găbița (Laura Vasiliu) desperately in need of an abortion, strictly illegal at the time, Otilia (Anamaria Marinca) must navigate a shadowy underworld of black market deal-making, brokered by the intimidating Mr. Bebe (Vlad Ivanov).
A very striking and original film, a jewel of what it is now considered the Romanian new wave, along with Cristi Puiu's The Death of Mr Lazarescu and Corneliu Porumboiu's 12:08 East of Bucharest.

Cristian Mungiu is a Romanian writer-director born in Iași, Romania in 1968. Before studying film, he worked as a teacher and journalist for the press, radio, and TV.
His debut film, Occident / West was premiered in Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes in 2002 and was an audience hit in Romania. In 2007, his second feature, 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days, was awarded the Palme d’Or in Cannes. The film later received several awards as best film of the year from various international associations of film critics. It also won the European Film Academy awards for best film and best director.
He returned to Cannes in 2009 as a writer/producer/co-director with the collective episodic film Tales from the Golden Age, and as a writer-director in 2012, with Beyond the Hills – double awarded for Best Screenplay and Best actresses.
He was in the jury of the Cannes film festival in 2013. Bacalaureat/Graduation is his fifth film.
