Hi folks, see below for the Week in Review. Also, if any of you are free next Thursday, May 11, Dr. Biden will be attending a fundraiser for the BBF in Bucks County, PA. It’s about 90 min from Wilmington, but should be a nice event. We’ll raise about 75k and Dr. Biden will announce our partnership with the Bucks County YMCA. Let me know if you’re interested in attending. Details below:

1. On Tuesday, Josh and Patty met with Lt. Gov Bethany Hall Long’s staff and representatives from the Delaware State Educators Association to discuss the need for changes to the process for revoking a teachers license if the teacher resigns under a cloud of suspicion relating to inappropriate contact with a child. We will have a follow up meeting with the DSEA and the secretary of the Education department in the coming weeks.
2. On Wednesday, Patty met with representatives from the Delaware State Police to iron out a partnership between the BBF and the DSP to train the camp counselors at Camp Barnes in Stewards of Children and NetSmartz. The BBF will also provide NetSmartz training for each camp session this summer.
3. On Wednesday, Patty and Josh had a call with Gavin Portnoy from the National Center for Missing & Exploited kids to discuss a conference hosted by the BBF in the fall (tentatively scheduled for October 20 in Wilmington) for local law enforcement. NCMEC will provide staff to lead four or five breakout sessions and the BBF will work on securing a high profile keynote speaker. The breakout sessions will cover internet crimes against children, responding to calls to the ChildTip Line, human trafficking and other topics directly related to our mission. Patty and Josh will pursue corporate underwriting of the conference.
4. On Thursday, Patty presented her Online Safety and Child Sex Trafficking deck at the Court Appointed Special Advocate conference in Dover. 110 people were in attendance.
5. On Thursday, Josh spoke at the monthly Delaware School Superintendents meeting in Dover. He addressed the Foundation’s goal to train teachers, administrators and support staff in Stewards of Children, and our desire to speak to middle and high school students about Internet Safety. He raised the possibility of partnering with a few school districts and applying for grants from local foundations to fund the trainings.
