>> Hello, my name is Gray Garrard and I am currently a first year at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. I am a Bio Molecular Science major with a Mathematics minor. My father told me you spoke to Allen Bell about my transfer application to the Upenn School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I just wanted to reach out to express my interest in transferring to the bioengineering program and explain exactly why this move will greatly increase my success later in life.

>> After meeting with Dr. Meaney last weekend, I have learned of the advantages of studying biology from an engineering perspective. My current program is deemed a science and as a result, the courses are geared towards intense study of biology and chemistry without the study of how to apply this knowledge through creativity and ingenuity. The bioengineering program will allow me to learn biology while simultaneously learning the design and mechanical principals of creating and applying biological methods for industry.

>> This summer I will be taking organic chemistry lab, physics 1 and physics 2. Additionally I am pursuing research opportunities with several members of the Penn faculty. I will additionally be completing research for a personal project aimed at producing mutagenic plants that produce useful proteins and biomaterials in large quantities. I will hope to integrate into the research culture at Upenn this summer and hopefully in the future.
