I met with Yiorgos Nikitiades, the ex-Minister of Tourism (which in Greece is a very big thing, since they aren’t doing much else). Yiorgos is a very good friend of Michael and mine and is part of our team in Greece that owns Euroconsultants.
He spoke with the current Minister of Transportation. The Minister had been in Thessaloniki meeting with the Russians. Despite this, the Minister remains pro-American. We need to think about how we want to play this and at what time (definitely not now). Yiorgos’s view is that a call from the Ambassador in Athens will go along way in getting us this deal.
Give this some thought. We of course need to have a competitive bid, but at the appropriate time this may make sense.
