Dear Members of the Board,
As many of you have surely read, President Trump today signed the $1 trillion spending agreement to fund the government through September. Below is a summary of what this means for global hunger and the World Food Programme. * A Title II Food for Peace allocation of $1.6 billion, a one-time increase of $134 million over the base level of $1.466 billion
* An International Disaster Assistance (IDA) allocation of $2.822 billion, an increase in funding of almost $25 million over FY16 (traditionally, about 30% of this is allocated to the Emergency Food Security Program within IDA).
* The really big news: Supplemental IDA funds of $990 million for famine relief ($300 million of which will be transferred to Title II for commodity food aid).
* A McGovern-Dole School Feeding allocation of $201.626 million, $5 million of which is available for Local and Regional Purchase associated with McGovern-Dole, both level funding from FY16.
Additionally, today we ghostwrote and placed an oped for Peter McPherson<http://www.freep.com/story/opinion/contributors/2017/05/04/farming-innovations-michigan/101264474/> (former USAID Administrator under Reagan) in the Detroit Free Press. Michigan is hosting the next Farm Bill hearing tomorrow so it's rather timely.
