Dear Robert, Many items get no traction in Richmond because we cannot get them through the General Assembly. I'm proud of our successes, but we could be doing so much more. One such issue is gerrymandering. I believe it's time to let voters pick their representatives, not the other way around. That's why I'm so excited that so many of our candidates have come out strong for redistricting reform. While this list is not comprehensive, everyone of the candidates below have come out publicly for redistricting reform to end the despicable gerrymandering that goes on in Richmond. The current majority in the General Assembly has made a mockery of our democracy because they are too cowardly to face any voters except the ones they choose for themselves. Elizabeth Guzman "It is impossible to have a fair process when Republicans who support and have benefited from gerrymandering control the House of Delegates and the State Senate." Donte Tanner “Nothing gets done when we are yelling at each other from both ends of the field. We need fairer elections to promote bipartisan governing, and to have a government that gets things done, rather than just grandstanding.” David Reid "As a delegate, I will support redistricting reform conducted by an independent commission so that Virginia will no longer rank as one of the most gerrymandered states in the country." Wendy Gooditis "Gerrymandering is the issue that first got me out of my chair at a town hall back in February 2017. It is time for a constitutional amendment in Virginia that takes redistricting out of the hands of politicians." Schuyler VanValkenburg "We should encourage more members of our community to have a voice in the political process at every level and that starts with ending gerrymandering to create competitive districts where candidates must really pay attention to their constituents." I'm working overtime from now to November because we can win a lot of these seats and we NEED to win these seats so the candidates I mentioned can help us break the logjam and get results, not just on redistricting reform, but so many issues. I have a message for Virginia voters.
