State Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has won West Virginia's Republican Senate primary, defeating Rep. Evan Jenkins and coal baron and ex-convict Don Blankenship.


Morrisey had 35 percent of the vote to Jenkins' 29 percent and Blankenship's 20 percent when The Associated Press called the race with 89 percent of precincts reporting.


Morrisey will face Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, a top Republican target, in the general election. President Donald Trump intervened in the primary earlier this week, saying that Blankenship could not beat Manchin and urging GOP voters to back either Morrisey or Jenkins.
