In Need of Extra TLC Little Duke is a Facing a Big Fight Poor Duke got loose on a transport through a series of unfortunate events and spent a week running large. Unfortunately, when we got the call that Duke had been found - he had been hit by a car- but miraculously was still alive (he's only 12 lbs!!). He was rushed to the emergency vet where X-rays revealed that his leg was decimated and needed to be amputated. The emergency clinic, 3 hours away from us, kept Duke stabilized on pain meds, antibiotics, and a leg wrap. The following day, he was rushed to one of our vet partners to perform the leg amputation. Unfortunately just a couple of days after his amputation, the surgery site became badly infected, and Duke was rushed back to the emergency clinic, where he spent the night on IV fluids and getting intensive care. He is now in a loving foster home, slowly healing, but the bills have added up and we have $2100 in unexpected medical expenses that we are struggling to get covered. Unexpected events like this require immediate action, which we will always provide. Now it's time to help recuperate some of the emergency medical funds so we're ready for the next animal in need (as there will always be a next)! Each week we seek to rescue new animals from our rural shelter partners before they face euthanasia due to space. It is essential that we secure sponsorship for these animals in order to cover their initial vetting and transport costs. We had great success from our wonderful Facebook supporters, but the new algorithm has drastically hurt our ability to reach out! To ensure we can continue to say YES to these puppies, dogs, kittens and cats, each week we will share with you some of our must have animals in hopes you will consider donating to their sponsor costs. Time is running out for these dogs Once we receive word from our shelter partners, we have very limited time to act and save these dogs before our weekly transports each Wednesday! A very sweet boy at heart, HT and his fosters knew he would need some extra attention to get him comfortable and properly socialized. At first Rua was able to co-exist with his cat siblings while being carefully watched. He also had some resource guarding issues. After just one week with his foster, Rua has become more comfortable with his eating, follows his foster mom everywhere, even politely sitting under the table while she works.
