As we continue to increase the DCF's role as a convener and facilitator helping communities in Delaware make a difference in the causes they care about, we are looking forward to our first 2019 Focus Conversation, Focus on Wilmington (https://www.delcf.org/community/focus-on-wilmington-2019/) . At this free community event, participants will learn about 14 promising collaborative projects underway in Wilmington and how to become part of their exciting work.

Apply for Scholarships

Delaware students are invited to ** apply for scholarships (https://www.delcf.org/scholarships/)
available through the Delaware Community Foundation. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2019.

The DCF is offering two Focus Grants Workshops to help nonprofits prepare their applications for our Increasing Youth Success and Supporting Delaware's Growing Latino Communities grant opportunities (more information below). Boys & Girls Club Launches New Digital Arts Lab

We were delighted to help launch the new Digital Arts Lab at the ** H. Fletcher Brown Boys & Girls Club (https://www.bgclubs.org/locations/h-fletcher-brown-boys-girls-club/)
in Wilmington, funded in part by the DCF. The project transformed a former weight room into a space for teens to lift their creative spirits and learn valuable skills.

Early Childhood Education is the Smartest Investment We Can Make in Delaware Kids

In an op-ed published in Delaware's News Journal, Stuart Comstock-Gay, DCF President & CEO, and Lynn Kokjohn, Chair of the ** Fund for Women (https://www.delcf.org/ways-to-give/giving-circles/ffw/)
at the DCF, write that early learning is one of the best – and highest yielding – investments a society can make. Experts equate a $4 to $9 return for every dollar spent on high-quality early learning programs for low-income children.

Comstock-Gay and Kokjohn applaud Governor Carney’s initiative to expand funding in the most critical areas of education: English learners and low-income students, and urge that to bolster the success of the initiative, it be paired with additional investment in early childhood education, which will magnify the benefits to children and further expand the advantages to their families and the community as a whole.

NAMI Delaware Strengthens Bicultural/Bilingual Mental Health Services in Delaware


Latino families in Delaware have greater access to bilingual, bicultural mental health care thanks to a 2017-19 (2-year) ** Arsht-Cannon Fund (https://arshtcannonfund.org/)
grant of $75,000 in continued support of ** NAMI Delaware (https://www.namidelaware.org/)
's Hispanic Services Initiative, which has partnered with 20 community organizations to provide needed services to Latino families in Kent and Sussex counties. The Arsht-Cannon Fund is a donor advised fund at the DCF.

Nanticoke Rotary Club (Deadline Mar. 15)
Grants that support any nonprofit organization, including any qualified school (public or private) on the Delmarva Peninsula, with particular emphasis given to Western Sussex County.

Specific Interest Grants (Deadline Mar. 22)
Funds at the DCF that provide a structured opportunity for eligible nonprofits whose missions align with specific interest areas to apply for grants.

Increasing Youth Success Focus Grants (Deadline Mar. 29)
Grants to organizations statewide that are enabling at-risk, traditionally disadvantaged youth to advance their personal development and resiliency, civic engagement, physical health, educational readiness and achievement.

Supporting Delaware's Latino Communities Focus Grants (Deadline Mar. 29)
Grants that support initiatives in Sussex County enabling English learners and their families to thrive through expanded educational and community supports.

Kent County Fund for the Arts (Deadline Apr. 1)
Grants that support schools, nonprofit and civic/community organizations for programs that help to foster growth of the arts in Kent County.
