Happy Independence Day!
I hope you have the chance to celebrate this weekend with family and friends, but
this is also a day for both gratitude and resolve. I am deeply grateful for the

to worship as I choose and to love as my heart guides me.
Those blessings are still dreams for too many in our world, and even for some in
our country. As an attorney and activist, I will continue to fight to bring justice
to those denied it for too long. For me, that means legal equality for all families,
access to courts and effective legal representation for the poor, unfettered freedom
of worship for religious minorities and sustained investment in education, housing
and health for all. Of course, that is made possible by our servicemen and servicewomen
who risk their lives to keep America safe and our investors, innovators and workers
who keep us prosperous.
