February 27 is World Spay Day and at Homeward Trails we are taking on a HUGE goal that can only be accomplished with your support. Together, we can save thousands of lives. Literally. We are aiming to raise $6,000 on this day to spay 150 homeless cats and dogs in Guanica, Puerto Rico. Why Guanica? Why the need? Our work in Puerto Rico is bringing relief to thousands of animals whose suffering is tremendous. In our small, southwest corner of the island where very few resources make their way, cats and dogs are dying everyday. They are hit by cars, they suffer and die from treatable injuries and illnesses. They reproduce and their young pups and kittens starve to death. It's a painful, unbelievable situation. With so many people continuing to leave the island, each week more and more animals are left behind with devastating outcomes. With money raised, we will be undertaking a week-long spay/neuter project in May in partnership with our veterinarians, local volunteers and Puerto Rican staff. We will aim to spay 150 cats and dogs that week. But we will not stop there. We will be empowering and supporting the local residents to participate by offering education on trapping, feeding and humane care and we'll be providing vouchers for spay/neuter that residents can use at our vet partners after our project. So that the work can continue. Every day. In 2018, Homeward Trails trapped and neutered almost 125 cats in four months. In 2019, we now have double the volunteers and more community engagement than ever and we know we can triple our efforts this year. In May 2019, we will be officially launching our new program name - GuaniCARES! What Will Your Donation Do? It not only will save the lives of thousands of animals but will help the people of Puerto Rico who love and care for these animals but simply do not have the resources to do more. Your donation will help people like Eliana and her husband, an elderly couple who spend 4 hours a day caring for over 200 cats. Feature Heading Puppies like Pinky and Mariachi who were dumped along the roadside just a few weeks of age. Kittens like Gumbo and Maria whose mother was killed by poison when they were just two weeks of age. We can share hundreds of stories just like these. And on February 27th, we WILL. Win a Trip to Puerto Rico! For every $50 donated, as soon as we reach our $6,000 goal, you will be entered to win two round-trip tickets, and full accommodations to join us May 19-26 on our week-long spay/neuter project. You will spend the week preparing our community event, meeting with our local partners and heading out into the field to trap animals. It will be the most rewarding experience ever. Please consider a donation on February 27 of $50 or more towards our ambitious and vital spay efforts. Stay tuned for the link to donate on February 27.
